Crashing surf beckons sailboarders and surfers, still-blue waters and brilliant coral lure divers, and soft breezes cool the faces of tanned sunbathers. Florida is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Consistently ranked in the top 10 beaches by the renowned "Dr. Beach" (Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman), it's no wonder Florida is one of the country's most popular destinations.

Number one on the list for 2005 is Fort De Soto Park, a spectacular beach and park located in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. This stunning area of the state offers 35 miles of white-sand beaches. Florida is also known for its sunshine; the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area has even set a record! An amazing 361 consecutive sunny days in one year was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Nearby Caladesi Island also was named one of the top beaches and remains a favorite local and tourist destination. Located a short drive from Busch Gardens and just 90 minutes from Walt Disney World, SeaWorld and other major attractions, it's a great way to experience the best of Florida's fabulous beaches and world-class attractions.

In total, over 1,200 miles of beaches embrace the state's shoreline. Each is unique, from the secluded northern shores of Pensacola to the lagoon-like beaches of the Keys.
