My dealer is telling me that there are two “software updates” for my vehicle and wants to charge me over $100 to do this. Is this for real? – Joanna N.
It sure is! Today’s automobiles have sophisticated computer systems that control everything from the engine management system to the audio system to the shift quality of the transmission. As manufacturers gather data on vehicles, they oftentimes develop improvements that parallel “updates” you would perform on your home PC. These updates are important to perform for greater efficiency, proper component function and prolonged vehicle life.
I would like to get my timing belt and A/C fixed and don’t know where to take my car. Can you recommend a good place where I can also get a discount? – Timothy W.
I would recommend visiting the nearest AAA Approved Auto Repair facility, as most will offer a discount on labor if you show them your AAA membership card. If you have Internet access, log on to AAA.com/Auto and click on the Approved Auto Repair link. You may then search for “Approved Auto Repair Facilities.” Those with the Show Your Card & Save® logo offer a discount on labor.
