Known as the “Island of Enchantment,” Puerto Rico beckons travelers with its beautiful scenery, luxurious hotels, charming paradores, exciting nightlife and a multitude of activities and adventures. Whether you’re hoping to hike in a rain forest, relax on a palm-fringed beach, surf legendary waves or journey into Old San Juan, Puerto Rico is your perfect destination.

A tropical island, Puerto Rico is blessed with beautiful inland scenery, mountains, gorgeous beaches and other diverse regions that should not be missed. One unique attraction is the Caribbean National Rain Forest, locally known as El Yunque.

This 28,000-acre rain forest is home to many unique plants and animals, including 240 tree species and more than 60 bird species such as the endangered Puerto Rican parrot. It’s actually one of the most accessible rain forests in the world, and much of the forest’s splendor can be enjoyed during a slow drive up and down the mountain. Best of all, El Yunque is just a 25-mile drive from San Juan.

Those who prefer the surf and sand may visit the island of Vieques off of Puerto Rico’s east coast. The island, famed for its beaches, also boasts one of Puerto Rico’s most incredible natural phenomena—Bahia Mosquito (Mosquito Bay). After the sun sets, the shallow waters in the bay light up in a stunning display of bioluminescence. A dip in these luminous tropical waters, especially on a moonless night, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Travelers looking for a more cosmopolitan vacation should be sure to stop in San Juan, which offers myriad attractions, including world-class beachfront resorts, casinos, trendy
restaurants, fine museums, hip nightclubs and some of the most exclusive shopping in the islands.

Old San Juan, renowned for its rich culture and historic attractions, encompasses a seven-square-block area full of historic sites, plazas, restaurants, galleries, colonial architecture and churches.
