Many say that great destinations can spark a remarkable love story. In some cases, the roles reverse. The Renaissance Tampa Hotel at the International Plaza was inspired by Gabriella and Sergio Pesce. Gabriella had just inherited her fathers cigar business in Tampa when she decided to travel to Spain to purchase new labels and cigar boxes.
But instead, loved bloomed on the Spanish Riviera for her and Sergio, owner of the largest paper mill in Europe. They moved back to Tampa, but were so inspired by the Mediterranean coast, they decided to build a dream home reminiscent of the resort mansions of Costa del Sol.
The wonderful décor and architecture of the new Renaissance Hotel were inspired by the influences of this famous couple. The lush interior courtyard is the heart of the hotel, giving one the illusion that this was once a private residence from the early 1900s.
Throughout the hotel, bright hues of red and yellow, hand-glazed tiles, custom ironwork and Italian crystal breathe a sense of Mediterranean elegance into the surroundings. Beautifully crafted light fixtures lead the way to one of the many private areas, where guests can explore the stylized architecture or simply unwind.
A tempting display in the main lobby is continually stocked with a variety of rare Mediterranean olives, perfect for sampling by guests and visitors.
There are 287 rooms and six spacious suites that offer guests an expansive view of the city. The hotel, newly opened last year, is located in the heart of Tampas Westshore business district, and just minutes away from Tampa International Airport, but dont be fooled, youll feel as though youve just entered a classic Mediterranean villa. The on-site restaurant, Pelagia, features an open-air kitchen where you can watch award-winning Executive Chef Fabrizio Schenardi fuse the flavors of Mediterranean, Asian and Floridian cuisine.
Just steps away, youll find yourself in the acclaimed International Plaza and Bay Street, an upscale shopping destination with nearly 200 stores and restaurants, including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Tiffany and Louis Vuitton. Guests are also just a short drive from Ybor City, a district rich in culture and history. The area is reminiscent of a Latin Quarter, where visitors can find unique shopping, dining and entertainment offerings.
For a true oasis from todays busy lifestyle, the Renaissance Tampa Hotel will sweep you away to classic turn-of-the-century Mediterranean elegance.
