AAA…the heritage continues

By Joanna Newton

As we celebrate our nation’s birthday this July 4, some of us may be curious about what is truly “American” in our lives.

A recent email sent to AAA from longtime members Bill and Irene, provides a great example of how AAA’s American heritage, which began in its original name (American Automobile Association), continues to this day through its service to members.

Bill and Irene’s story centers around a driving experience that is as American as, well, apple pie. It’s a road trip.

Following are excerpts from their email highlighting their experience and how AAA continues to play a role in the lives of Americans—and travelers—every day.

“On Saturday, Feb. 20, we were traveling back from vacation and towing our 2006 Airstream Travel Trailer. We were south of Perry, FL, on US 98 when our wheel suddenly flew off. My husband directed the vehicle to the side of the road, and after a few deep breaths, we contacted AAA.

“My call was immediately answered by an angel. Calm and reassuring, her first words were, ‘Are you out of traffic and are you okay?’ When I reassured her that we were, she took the information and worked with us and the AAA service person in the area. She stayed on the phone while my husband talked to the service person. She even called us back to make sure that we were okay.”

The AAA employee who spoke with Irene on the phone was located in AAA’s Nashville Call Center. AAA works diligently to ensure its dispatchers and customer service employees provide members with the very best in personal service.

This is the case no matter what your call is related to...travel, insurance, membership information or—as in Bill and Irene’s case—
to request emergency road service.

Irene wrapped up her email with...“It sure makes life easier to know that I have always been able to count on AAA since 1983, when my husband was an active duty sailor. I remember how nice it was to have someone watching my back when he was at sea. THANK YOU again.”

...Thank YOU, Irene and Bill. It is our loyal members who have made AAA what it is today—an organization that truly enjoys helping others.

If you join thousands of other Americans on the road this summer, we hope that you won’t need emergency road service. But if you do, you can count on AAA to be there when you need it...24/7.

We truly care about the safety and security of our AAA members—and our fellow Americans.
