New Year Cheer

If you're looking for something special to do on New Year's Eve, The InterContinental San Juan offers a choice of four music and entertainment venues for every age and musical preference.

For those who like to celebrate tradition, ring in the New Year with a tropical festival. Enjoy a traditional Puerto Rican buffet while dancing to top salsa and merengue bands.

Is romance in the air? An evening of jazz under the stars may be the perfect choice, with live jazz music and a holiday buffet for kids as well as adults. Ready to party like a rock star? DJ Emil Cedeûo will be mixing up 80s and 90s music all night long. Of course, you ARE allowed to simply relax and enjoy live Jibaro Jazz while sipping on champagne at the I-Bar Lobby Lounge. Feliz Ano Nuevo!

For Those Crafty Shoppers...

Looking for a unique or unusual gift to give for the upcoming holiday season? Try hitting the streets before you hit the stores for a breath of fresh air shopping.

On Saturday, Dec. 12 through Sunday, Dec. 13, the Annual Artisan Fair will be held at The Luis Munoz Rivera Park near Old San Juan. This event will feature master artisans from all over the island. Browse and enjoy Puerto Rican culture with live entertainment, local foods, and arts and crafts the island is known for. Items you may purchase include local instruments such as the cuatro (similar to a guitar but with 10 strings), guiro (made out of a gourd), pleneras (similar to a tambourine), and crafts like mundillo (bobbin lace), traditional wood carvings, silk screen and oil paintings, and jewelry made out of local materials.

Stroll, Sip and Sample

Just say no to driving and yes to dining. One of San Juan's most popular areas, SoFo–or South Fortaleza Street (Calle Fortaleza)–will be closed to traffic and open to tasting for the SoFo Culinary Festival. SoFo is the name given to Old San Juan's Restaurant Row–a trendy spot popular for sampling some of the best flavors of San Juan, the culinary capital of the Caribbean. In addition to Puerto Rican cuisine, the festival offers a variety of Brazilian, Spanish, French, Mediterranean, Italian and Mexican fare.

The SoFo area, part of a 465-year-old neighborhood, is steeped in history and culture, with beautifully restored 16th- and 17th-century buildings. This normally quiet seven-block area is transformed into a mecca for cuisine during this festival. Participating restaurants set up tables, food displays and demonstrations outside. A special pedestrian area gives hungry visitors the opportunity to sample a delicious variety of dishes and dance to live music. Tentative dates for the Sofo Culinary Festival are Dec. 3-6.
