We all know that during the holiday season there are many alcohol-impaired drivers on the road. Each year, nearly 23,000 people are killed (one every 23 minutes) and over one-half million are injured (one every minute) in alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents.
As we do every year, AAA encourages you to be “first a friend, then a host.” It’s as easy as ABC:
- Alcohol awareness: Don’t be a “pour” host and force drinks on your guests. Respect the wishes of those who say “no, thanks” or “make it coffee.”
- Buffet: Always serve protein-rich and starchy food throughout the evening. It helps retard the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream and diverts attention from the alcoholic drinks.
- Carpool: The best thing you can do as a host is to have someone who has not been drinking drive drinking guests home.
Also, remember AAA offers a Tow to Go service to get the car and its impaired driver safely home. The Tow to Go program is available throughout Florida and in Metro Atlanta, Savannah and Metro Nashville.
For more information, please visit AAA Tow to Go.
This holiday season, experience the charm of the Legendary Delta Queen Riverboat and enjoy the spirit of a bygone era aboard the Delta Queen Hotel now docked in Chattanooga, TN. Though she no longer cruises the Mississippi River, she graces the Tennessee River, a National Historic Landmark serving up luxurious sleeping cabins, a complimentary gourmet breakfast and weekend entertainment that will fill you with nostalgia! Now is the time to take advantage of exclusive AAA member rates beginning at $59 per night.
Contact your local AAA office for complete details.
