iPhone App

Aussie-Tizers at Outback Steakhouse

Is Outback Steakhouse going to be giving free Bloomin’ Onions to AAA members in 2010?

Whom can I trust with my car?

As a woman with no auto repair knowledge, I don’t know whom to trust with my car...my dealer or a repair shop.

Can iUse my iPhone?

Is there a AAA iPhone app available for on-the-road guidance and assistance?

—nilesrob

StephenW (from AAA): We have two apps for your iPhone and iPod Touch. The first is a Discounts App, which uses GPS to display a map of your current location and identifies stores, restaurants, hotels, etc., where AAA members receive a discount. The second is a Roadside Assistance App that again uses GPS to identify where you are should you need service.

Castle

Castles in Ireland

I’m looking to find an Irish castle hotel to stay in that won’t break the bank; any suggestions for where to start my
search?

—Andrea 9847

JanetS (Community Travel Blogger): Depending on itinerary and budget, I would recommend a mixture of Manor House stays, hotels and a grand finale stay at Dromoland Castle. Dromoland is about 8 km (5 miles) from the Shannon airport and is my favorite Irish Castle hotel. The staff is friendly and the dining room is superb. Traveling in March will allow you to take advantage of low season rates with both air and hotels.

One thing a friend should know

I love the incredible discounts AAA offers. It is not just for road service anymore. The insurance, pharmacy and all the other discounts AAA offers more than pays for my membership each year! Thanks, AAA.

Oily know-it-alls

My know-it-all ex-husband tells me I only need to change my oil twice a year no matter how many miles I drive, and my boyfriend, who is a likeable and for real know-it-all, tells me to change it every 10,000 miles. Which one is right?

—RHV

AAAPete (Community Auto Blogger): I am going to guess you are an average driver who puts on about 12,000 miles per year. Not knowing much detail, I suggest changing the oil and rotating the tires every 5,000 miles. If you are driving slightly less than average, then know-it-all #1 (the ex) is correct. The likeable know-it-all #2 unfortunately doesn’t get my vote because not only does the oil break down and lose viscosity, which in turn increases friction between internal moving parts, but the oil filter by that time is no longer effectively filtering the oil as it should, and the particulates are recirculating through the engine versus being trapped in the filter.
